YOU’RE ENGAGED!! YAY! I’m so excited for your upcoming engagement session with MollyMcPhoto. This is not just a photo shoot, it is the start of telling your love story in a way that is authentically you. It is one of my favorite parts of the process because we get to connect beyond wedding details and create art from your love.


Whether you are naturals or brand-new to the camera, my goal is to make this fun, relaxed, and full of genuine connection. It is also the perfect chance to get comfortable before the big day. You will be spouses forever, but only fiancés for a short time, so let’s celebrate it.


This guide is packed with tips, ideas, and inspiration to help you feel prepared and confident. These are not rules, just tools to make the most of your session. The most important thing is to enjoy it. I will handle the rest.

Timing Matters

Your engagement session has been scheduled during the dreamiest light of the day—typically golden hour, but we will chat about what the best timing is for your specific location. It’s when the sun is lower, the light is soft and warm, and everything feels a little more magical.


Because I work with mostly natural light, the sun sets the pace for our time together. To make the most of your session, plan a little extra time when getting ready so you can arrive a few minutes early. If you have two outfits, wear your favorite for the second half of the shoot. If you have just one, arrive in that.


A few tips to keep us on track:


  • Check traffic before you head out, especially on weekdays.
  • Plan ahead—lay out outfits the night before.
  • Build in a buffer for hair and makeup so you’re not rushing.
  • Pack in one tote so everything’s ready to grab and go.


Quick Tip: Weekends book up fast with weddings, so weekday sessions are usually the best bet for availability.

If an outfit feels itchy, tight, or awkward, SKIP IT!! You’ll be hugging, sitting, walking, and cuddling during your session, so you want clothes that let you move freely. If you both feel comfortable and confident, it will show beautifully in your photos.
